Canmore is best travelled to by car. It is a relatively small town with few public transport options. It has an extremely walkable town centre with quality local goods and services. There are plenty of sights worth seeing just outside of the town, including Banff National Park and the Icefield Parkway, most of which can only be reached by car.
The nearest airport to Canmore is Calgary International Airport. It is located in a big city 1 hour drive away from Canmore.
An alternative airport is Edmonton International Airport. Opt for this airport if travelling to Jasper National Park is part of your itinerary. Edmonton International Airport is 3.5 hours drive away from Jasper, and Jasper is 2 hours drive away from Banff and Canmore. The drive from Jasper to Canmore is one of the most beautiful drives in the world with plenty of stops for sightseeing, wildlife spotting, hiking, and more.
We suggest renting a car from one of the airports listed above. Both airports have a selection of car rental companies based within the airport vicinity. We regularly rent from Enterprise, but all rental companies based in the airports are trustworthy. Please keep in mind that in Canada, the driver sits on the left side of the car and drives on the right lane. International Driver's License is not needed to rent a car in Canada.
